Google Blogger Migration Tool
Tuesday, 23 March 2010
As a legacy from some of my current clients' old websites I have used Google Blogger for some basic CMS (Content Management System) services - using the clients' websites' FTP accounts to host the pages.
This has proven an effective and relatively easy way to maintain my clients' comfort zone with regard to the updating process and allowing Google to post the new pages and content to their servers - which historically has a great effect on a pages' rank, as some search engines particularly like to see sites with expanding content.
This service though is shortly to be axed and as such I have successfully migrated a number of Google Blogger pages from one of the websites I manage (the Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship website) using the Google Blogger Migration tool.
So far so good, though the pages are now on sub-domains of the main domain and hosted by blogger... which isn't necessarily a positive move form an SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) perspective.
Hosting your Blog on your own server is still believed to be an effective way to increase the size of your website, so for this reason the future of blog integration may well rest with an alternative provider...
