As an existing client but without a care plan Simon Turner had a full eCommerce website that had sadly been lacking much attention for a few years – as such the time had come for an upgrade – and a significant change in direction in regards to what the client’s website needed to do – and why it needed to change.
The first thing that really needed attention was a better grasp of exactly what the requirements were in regards to the change in the website structure. Following an on site consultation it transpired that the client needed to move from a full eCommerce website with hundreds of pages, to one that was concentrating on a handful of pages looking more at engaging customers and bringing them into the showrooms. It also meant that the emphasis was to change from national sales coverage to local service fulfilment.
The initial work required was to examine the client’s current business structure with an emphasis on the current services provided and the ideal customer base, together with an understanding of the staffing resources and how these assets could be used in conjunction with a new website and support package. Also identified were the client’s competitors and main market sectors.
After this discovery session, initial market and competitor research was undertaken to identify appropriate website and content structure to take advantage of as many of the available target search strategies as possible, while maintaining relevance on content and copy to both the services and the client’s audience.
After an initial prototype had been completed, assessed, tweaked and agreed the design stage was initiated and various visuals were produced to mock up the main page and post types that were to be developed – for larger desktop computers down to smartphone devices.
Various iterations were completed until a final set of visuals were agreed on at which point the development process began alongside content copyrighting and population.
Aside from the client reporting a significant increase in enquiries, and a particularly favourable reaction from both customers and local business owners, the website has performed well in regards to increased visitor numbers, a decrease in bounce rate, and an increase in the number of tracked enquiries through PPC campaigns.
There was no baseline for statistical comparison due to an absence of data from the previous website, and due to the significant change in structure and content it has not been possible to determine specifics in regards to data improvements.
That said the best measurement of success in regards to a website project is in customer enquiries, engagement and through the door sales – and suffice to say Simon Turner Showrooms have been so busy it has been difficult getting through to them on the phone, and they have increase their staff with a recruitment push months following the launch of the new website.
