Google are to release a new bit of hardware that essentially allows you to digitally document your life hands free – by wearing ‘The Glass’.
Similar to a pair of glasses, in that you wear this in the same way, The Glass is a headset that contains a small mobile computer, a camera, a microphone and a tiny display that projects a virtual screen in the wearer’s field of vision. It allows the user to activate various functions via touch or voice display such as directions when driving, translating words to different languages, taking photos & recording videos.
It really sounds like a clever bit of engineering however my concern is that we have too many techno items in our life as it is that distract us from every day ‘real’ interaction – our smart phones, tablets, facebook, twitter and so on – and this seems like another step in that direction.
